Our projects
We are set on powering Italy's future with floating offshore wind farms
AvenHexicon is planning seven floating wind farms in Italy’s waters, two off the coasts of Sicily and Sardinia are our most advanced projects. Once operating, our projects will be able to harness strong offshore winds to deliver clean, sustainable energy that can support Italy’s energy independence and a greener future.

Sicily South Offshore Wind Project
Located in the heart of the Sicily Channel, the Sicily South offshore wind farm is a groundbreaking renewable energy project positioned over 25 km from the nearest coast of Agrigento. With up to 76 turbines and a planned installed capacity of 1,140 MW, this project is designed to harness the region's strong offshore winds to produce clean energy. Once operational, the wind farm will generate enough electricity to power 1.5 million homes, playing a crucial role in advancing Italy's green energy transition while maintaining the lowest environmental impact.
This project exemplifies sustainable development and is situated far out in the Mediterranean Sea between the Pantelleria, Linosa, and Gozo islands, ensuring the preservation of coastal ecosystems.
Sardinia Northwest Offshore Wind Project
Located off the northwestern coast of Sardinia, near Capo Caccia, the Sardinia Northwest offshore wind project is a major renewable energy initiative situated 24 km from the coastline in open waters. With a planned installed capacity of 1,290 MW, the wind farm will feature up to 86 turbines harnessing strong offshore winds to produce clean, sustainable energy. Once completed, it will generate enough electricity to power 1.6 million homes, contributing significantly to Italy's green energy goals.
Designed with minimal environmental impact in mind, the Sardinia Northwest project is designed to the highest design requirement to meet the condition of perfect integration in the local environment. It exemplifies the future of renewable energy, helping reduce carbon emissions while supporting the region’s transition to cleaner energy sources.
Project Status Update
We ensure that the progress of our projects are in line with current regulations, and we have taken several important steps already.
-
Single Authorization: We have submitted a request for authorization to construct and operate the wind farm to the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE). This process is coordinated with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) and involves consultations with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry Policies (MASAF) to address any concerns related to maritime fishing.
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA): We have completed the scoping phase to define the key elements of the Environmental Impact Study (SIA). This is a crucial step before submitting the full EIA request to MASE, with input from the Ministry of Culture (MiC). We received positive scoping feedback for the Sardinia NW and the Sicily South projects and we are proceeding with the surveys and studies required for the full SIA.
Maritime Concession Requests: We have submitted two key requests—one to the local maritime authority for areas within 12 nautical miles and another to the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMI) for areas beyond 12 nautical miles—to secure the necessary concessions for the use of maritime state property.
These steps represent important milestones as we move closer to making these offshore wind projects a reality.
